About Huaraz:
Huaraz is the centre
for climbing and trekking in Peru, with close proximity to the
Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash. The city is flanked by
mountains – on one side the dry Cordillera Negra and the other side
the snow capped peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. The city skyline is
dominated by the massive Huascaran, the highest peak in Peru at an
altitude of 6,768m. Huaraz is situated about 400 km. north of Lima, 7
to 8 hours by bus at an altitude of 3090m. It is the capital of the
Department of Ancash, with a population of around 100,000.
The city and the surrounding area features natural hot springs,
archaeological sites, cafes, restaurants, night clubs and street
