Monteverde:
The Monteverde Area is
the second most popular destination in Costa Rica. The small village
next to Santa Elena called Monteverde got its fame from the Biological
Reserve that it is next to. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological
Reserve is a private reserve that was first started and purchased by
the first settlers of Monteverde. The first settlers were Quakers that
decided to leave the United States after being jailed from refusing to
register for the draft in the 1950’s. Shortly after arrival here the
Quakers started to diary farm and make cheese. This cheese is now sold
all over Costa Rica and it is some of the best in Costa Rica today.
After the Quakers had settled here the roads were getting better and
better and more and more people were coming to visit and live in this
beautiful cloud forest.
