San Pedro:
The east part of San
Jose is full of youth and the most popular area is by far San Pedro.
This is where the University of Costa Rica, one of the two public
universities, is located. San Pedro is only 10 minutes from Downtown
San Jose but has a very different feel. There are numerous restaurants
and bars surrounding the University of Costa Rica where young Costa
Rican’s as well as young tourists are plentiful. The bar
seen is probably the best here where you can mingle with
the Ticos’ (Costa Ricans). San Pedro has all the attractions of a big
city, yet has the atmosphere of a small town, but has a vibrant and
exciting nightlife. The city is not the major final
destination for most tourists visiting Costa Rica. San Pedro is
home to many colorful local markets where you
can purchase just about anything. Almost any
location within Costa Rica is only 4 hours away by public
transportation.
